Inter Milan are seeking to get Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku back to the club from Chelsea.
Lukaku is willing to accept a significant salary cut to return to Inter following a tough season with Chelsea.
The Blues are still looking for a loan fee for the 29-year-old, whom they bought for £97.5 million from the Serie A club in August 2021.
Inter are attempting to reduce their outgoings as they work to regain control of their finances, and there is yet to be an agreement on the magnitude of the loan cost.
Given Lukaku’s desire to return to Italy, it is expected that a deal will be reached.
Lukaku, who left Chelsea for Everton for £28 million in 2014, returned to the club last summer on a five-year deal from Inter.
The cost was barely shy of Manchester City’s £100 million for Jack Grealish, a British transfer record.
However, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel never gave the sense that Lukaku, who joined the club after helping Juventus win the Serie A title in 2020-21, was a good fit for his favoured style of play.
For the Blues, he scored 15 goals in all competitions, including eight goals in 26 Premier League games.
As Chelsea’s season came to an end, he only scored three times in his remaining 15 Premier League appearances.
The Blues finished third in the Premier League, and in both the FA Cup and League Cup finals, they were defeated by Liverpool on penalties.
