Injury Update: Arteta worries Partey is out for the season

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is “unconvinced” that Thomas Partey will return from injury before the season’s end.

The Ghana international suffered a thigh injury in last Monday’s 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace and was later ruled out of the weekend’s home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Partey has subsequently had more evaluation for his injury, and Arteta has revealed that the former Atletico Madrid star is unlikely to return before the season concludes.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Southampton, Arteta said: “The news we got after having another assessment, they are not great.

“It’s not looking positive, his availability this season. We’ll have to wait and see, he’s trying to get back as quickly as possible but at the moment, we are not very optimistic about it.”

Arteta also expects Alexandre Lacazette to be available for the match against Southampton, after the Arsenal captain missed training earlier this week due to “private concerns.”
