Inaki Williams excited after being named La Liga African MVP

Iñaki Williams says he is thrilled to have won the LaLiga SPORTY African MVP award for the second consecutive time.

The 30-year-old’s standout season, with 14 goals and assists, was instrumental in Athletic Bilbao’s historic 2024/25 LaLiga campaign, securing a Champions League spot.

Williams received 32% of the vote from expert journalists and fans.

“Winning an award like this means you are doing things right. I’m so happy and proud that I’ve won it two years in a row. Hopefully, I can make it three.” Williams is motivated to continue pushing himself to greater heights.

He’s also proud to represent his African heritage in LaLiga, a league with a huge following. “It’s a real honor to be able to represent our roots in some way to give visibility in a league that’s so special and has always had such a huge following.”

Williams’ success inspires young African footballers, and he believes it’s “a beautiful thing for young people across Africa, a continent where football has always been a big part of life, to be able to see their role models succeed.” His achievements pave the way for other African players to make a name for themselves in LaLiga.
