Spanish-born Ghanaian striker Inaki Williams has admitted that Athletic Club have struggled to meet expectations this season but insists the team remains determined to turn things around.
The Red-Whites have endured a difficult campaign, failing to match their usual standards and currently sitting 12th on the league table with 24 points after 21 matches.
Williams himself has endured a frustrating season, hampered by a series of injuries that have limited his impact. The lanky forward remains sidelined and missed Athletic Club’s league encounter against Sevilla over the weekend.
Despite making 17 appearances in all competitions, Williams has managed just one goal so far this season. However, he remains confident in the squad’s resilience and has urged supporters to continue backing the team as they fight to regain form.
“Things aren’t turning out the way we want them to. We know it, and we feel it. But this group remains standing,” Williams wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“There’s still a long way to go; we’re alive and with the same ambition as always.”
He further emphasized the club’s fighting spirit, adding:
“With your support, we’re going to keep fighting every day, together, until the end. Athletic Club never gives up. This team and this fan base will never lower their arms. We keep going!”
Athletic Club will look to respond when they host Portuguese champions Sporting CP in their final UEFA Champions League group-stage fixture on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
