Head coach of Ghana’s U-20 men’s team, Desmond Ofei, has pointed to his side’s lack of maturity as a key reason behind their 1-1 draw with Nigeria in the opening Group B match of the 2025 WAFU Zone B Boys Cup.

The Black Satellites took a deserved lead through Aziz Musibau in the first half at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, but were denied victory after Abdullahi Muhammed’s late header salvaged a point for Nigeria in the 83rd minute.

“The boys did really well. It’s never easy facing Nigeria in your first game,” Ofei admitted. “But immaturity at this level was one of the reasons we couldn’t hold on.”

Despite the setback, Ofei is confident his team will bounce back stronger. “We will learn, we will improve, and we will make sure we get the three points,” he said ahead of their crucial clash with Benin on July 16. Nigeria face Benin on July 13.
