Germany-born striker Ilyas Ansah has decided not to represent Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The 21-year-old forward, who has Ghanaian roots, has been on the radar of the Ghana Football Association and Black Stars coach Otto Addo in recent months.
Despite the interest, the Union Berlin attacker has opted to continue his development with Germany’s U21 team.
Ansah says his current priority is growth at club and youth international level.
“I’ve decided to soak up everything I’m currently experiencing at Union and continue playing for the German U21 team,” Ansah explained as quoted by tribuna.com.
“After the U21 European Championship, I’ll look into it next year and make a decision. As things stand, I won’t be going to the World Cup with Ghana.”
His decision means Ghana will have to look elsewhere as they prepare for the global tournament.
