Assistant coach of the Sudanese national team, Ignatius Fosu-Osei, expressed optimism about his team’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after securing a valuable point against Ghana.

The Falcons held the Black Stars to a 0-0 draw in their Matchday 3 AFCON qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, despite Ghana’s dominance.

Addressing the media after the game, Ignatius said, “We have always been confident from the start of the competition because we take solace in the fact that in the [2026] World Cup qualifiers, we are two points clear of Senegal.”

“So for us, we have always been confident that we are going to qualify.”

“After Ghana lost at home (to Angola) and drew away (to Niger), we knew that if we won all our home games, we would qualify, so this result [drawing in Accra] is a huge boost for Team Sudan because now it becomes easier,” he added.

Following Thursday’s game, Sudan currently occupies second place in the Group F standings with four points from three games, followed by Ghana with just two points.

Sudan and Ghana will face off again on Tuesday, October 15, at the Martyrs of February Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
