Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Oduro Sarfo, has hit back at Sports Minister Kofi Adams following comments made by the Minister suggesting some club owners in the Ghana Premier League are “clueless.”
The backlash comes in the wake of the abandoned match between Basake Holy Stars and Nations FC at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park last Sunday, which ended abruptly after Nations FC walked off the pitch over a disputed penalty call.
Reacting to the Minister’s remarks on Adom TV’s Fire for Fire, Oduro Sarfo described the comments as uninformed and inappropriate, stating, “If the Minister for Sports understood football, he wouldn’t have said some club owners are clueless.”
He drew a comparison to other sectors, adding ;
, “I don’t think the Minister for Health will go on air and call private hospital owners clueless. This is not how football administration works.”
The GFA Executive Council member admitted that part of the problem may lie with the GFA itself, pointing to a lack of proper orientation for the Minister upon assuming office.
“I will blame the GFA, including myself. When he came into office, we should have given him the code of ethics, disciplinary code, statutes and regulations of the FA,” he said.
Oduro also questioned the Minister’s grasp of football procedures, particularly in relation to match reports.
“I heard him saying he is waiting for the match report. From who? The match reports come to the GFA, not the Minister,” he asserted.
In a broader critique, he urged the Presidency to revitalize the Ministry of Youth and Sports, claiming the current state of Ghana’s sports infrastructure reflects poorly on its leadership.
“If the Sports Minister was doing his job well, the various stadiums in the country wouldn’t be in such deplorable condition,” he added.
Meanwhile, the GFA has confirmed that it has opened an investigation into the events that marred the match in Ayinase.
