If clubs pay GPL players a minimum $2k they can keep top players – Kwabena Yeboah

The President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Kwabena Yeboah has said he believes if clubs in the Ghana Premier League are able to pay players a minimum of $2,000, they will be motivated to stay in the country.

In the last decade, one of the challenges that have confronted the local league is player exodus.

At the end of every season, the top stars especially the top goal scorers are poached away from their various clubs.

Speaking at a breakfast meeting organized by leading online betting company Betway Ghana, with the SWAG, and the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) on how to positively build the Ghana Premier League (GPL), Kwabena Yeboah said the sure way to keep players is to pay them well.

“The minimum salary to be paid to players should be at least $2000. That way, we can keep our top stars and minimize the act of players leaving the shores of Ghana to play abroad,” the SWAG boss shared.

Kwabena continued, “If teams in Africa can pay such an amount to get our players, why can’t Ghana do the same?”
