Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has stressed the importance of thorough preparation as his side navigates the final stretch of the Ghana Premier League season, insisting his team will not take their current position for granted.
The Tarkwa-based club currently leads the league table with 43 points after 21 matches, placing them in a strong position in the title race. However, their impressive 17-game unbeaten streak recently came to an end following a 2–1 defeat to Nations FC at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex — a reminder, according to Tanko, that consistency must be earned every week.
Despite the setback, Medeama still holds a healthy seven-point advantage over second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars, keeping their championship ambitions firmly on track.
“I always say we’re not invincible. We have our strengths and our weaknesses, so we are going to prepare very well and face the rest of the games,” Tanko noted.
Beyond league action, the former Black Stars assistant coach also highlighted his side’s progress in the MTN FA Cup, where Medeama secured a place in the quarter-finals after edging FC Samartex 1996 4–2 on penalties following a goalless draw in regulation time. The victory added another layer of confidence to a campaign already filled with promise.
Tanko further provided encouraging updates on player fitness, revealing that earlier injury worries are beginning to ease. Key squad members Manuel Mantey and Emma have both returned to full training, with Emma recently featuring impressively in a friendly match after a cautious recovery period.
“Both are training very well. Mantey is back, and Emma has also returned,” Tanko explained. “Emma came back about two weeks ago, but we didn’t want to rush him. He played in a friendly match yesterday and did very well, so I think he is fully back.”
Medeama now turn their attention to their Matchday 22 fixture, where they will host Aduana FC at the TNA Park, a clash that could further strengthen their grip at the top if they return to winning ways.
