Ibrahim Gusau has resigned as president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) with immediate effect, alongside the federation’s entire Executive Board.
Gusau confirmed the mass resignation at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday afternoon, bringing an abrupt end to the current leadership of Nigerian football.
The decision follows growing criticism of the NFF after a series of disappointing results involving Nigeria’s national teams. Pressure on the federation intensified after the Super Falcons failed to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
That failure is regarded as a historic setback for Nigeria, which had never previously missed the tournament. The outcome has increased scrutiny of the NFF’s management of women’s football and prompted questions about the wider direction of the sport in the country.
