Dr. Desmond Sarpong has revealed his three-year reign as Executive Chairman of Asante Kotoko was undermined by members of his own administration.
The chartered accountant resigned from the post two months ago for reasons he says were personal.
Dr. Sarpong’s resignation plunged the club in temporal chaos as the surviving members of the board and management found it difficult to get a hold of the club’s operations.
The businessman whose was heavily criticized for his policy of selling of key players of the team to raise needed funds for the club has now broke his silence since leaving the job over two years ago.
In a lecture to the Rotary Club in Ghana on Tuesday, Dr. Sarpong revealed how members of his management team leaked confidential information to the press during his reign.
“You have management meetings and at the end of it all the issues discussed at the meeting is on radio,†he said during the lecture.
“Then I got to realize you have members who have their mobile phones on during meeting to relay the information to the media.
“I saw this late. I saw this very late.â€
Dr. Sarpong apart from his selling policy which infuriated several Kotoko fans have been largely credited for his professional approach to managing the Ghana Premier League giants.
He secured several sponsorship deals for the club while leading the team to consecutive Premier League titles before quitting in July.
