Dutch defender Jeremie Frimpong has disclosed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) contacted him to play for the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The Bayer Leverkusen wing-back was among the players the GFA targeted to convince to switch allegiance to Ghana.
Despite the GFA’s approach, Frimpong chose to represent the Netherlands, the country of his birth.
He cited the Netherlands’ faith in him as the reason for his decision, stating that they were the first to believe in his abilities.
“I considered playing for Ghana and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) did make contact with me, but Holland were always the first one to come and they were the country that believed in me,” he told 3Sports.
The Bayern 04 Leverkusen player has made 10 appearances for the Dutch national team.
He is currently in Ghana for the Christmas holidays.
