Ghana international, Mohammed Kudus has opened up on why he wanted to leave Ajax for Everton during the summer transfer.

The 21-year-old after an impressive performance during pre-season struggled for game time beginning of the season.

The former FC Nordsjaelland forward was reported to be unhappy about the situation and tried to force a move away from the club.

Premier League side, Everton emerged as the favorite club to sign Kudus but the deal fell through.

However, Kudus has become one of the best players for the Dutch side and has scored 9 goals in 19 appearances for the side.

Speaking in an interview, Kudus revealed that he wanted to try something new hence his decision to leave the club in the summer.

“Of course, things changed after that,” he told Dutch publication Algemeen Dagblad via Sport Witness when asked about wanting to leave in the summer.

“Especially that I started playing more. I believe that if – and we never know for sure – I had been given that chance, things could also have gone well or better.

“That’s how I felt at the time. I wanted to try something new. That’s normal in football. We all want to play. And if you don’t play, you have to look further to be able to do that.

“I am a player who likes to challenge himself. This is my third season here. We’ll see what the future brings. The most important thing is that I just keep performing for the team and the rest will follow naturally later,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kudus is expected to make Ghana’s final squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
