I spoke to a Kotoko board member after leaving Hearts – Sulley Muntari

Former Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntari has revealed that he spoke to a Kumasi Asante Kotoko board member about a move to the Porcupine Warriors after leaving Hearts of Oak.

Sulley Muntari joined Hearts of Oak on 1st February 2022 for an undisclosed amount till the end of the season.

The former AC Milan midfielder won the President’s Cup with the Phobians on 4th March 2022. Hearts of Oak beat rivals Asante Kotoko 2-1 to secure the trophy.

After the end of the 2021/22 season the Phobians sat down with Sulley Muntari to discuss a new contract but the two parties had to part ways due to differences in ideas.

“I had few talks with them with some of the board members I wanted to go and help them in Africa. I was with Hearts of Oak at that time and when the contract ended I was talking with them to build a very strong team. I didn’t want to go disgrace myself at the African campaign when you are going to play any Caf competition even if its Africa or Europe or something you prepare for that the players you used to qualify for the other stage of the champions league,” he said on Dan Kweku Yeboah TV on Youtube.

“You need to get good players to add to the squad, build the team to add them so I was talking with Hearts to build a team but then of course the management had different ideas. If someone has a different idea although you tell them to do stuff but they don’t want to do it don’t push it,”

“To tell you the truth I didn’t want to go and disgrace myself and I know I have really worked really hard in terms of football. And to come and destroy everything with this little thing no I won’t do it so I was talking to Kotoko and it was the same and because Hearts didn’t do what I want I wanted to go to Kotoko no,”

“Even if it is a small team in the second division it is the same mentality that I want to use to build a strong team because the moment you build a strong team the following year you can sell your players two, three and then you get money and build the team again. So most of the teams we play in Europe that is what they do and I wanted to see something like that but here the mentality is just different and we continue to say mentality…mentality is different and all these things it is horrible,”
