I returned for a reason – Inaki Williams after scoring in Athletic Bilbao’s Copa del Rey win over Barcelona

Athletic Bilbao forward, Inaki Williams revealed that he had a specific goal in mind when he arrived in Spain for the Copa del Rey fixture against Barcelona on Wednesday night.

In a thrilling quarterfinal match, the 29-year-old played a crucial role, contributing to two goals as Bilbao secured a 4-2 victory over Barcelona in extra time, ultimately eliminating the latter from the competition.

Despite having less than 48 hours between leaving Ghana’s camp in Ivory Coast and the game, Willaims notched a goal and provided an assist in the 4-2 triumph.

After the game, he expressed his confidence in Bilbao’s ability to overcome Barcelona and progress to the next stage of the cup, a belief that materialized with his significant contributions.

Post-match celebrations saw the forward declaring, “I got back for a reason. Let’s go!”

Inaki Williams, who had a relatively subdued performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Black Stars, managed to put those challenges aside with an impactful display in his first game back with his club.

Inaki Williams has now scored 9 goals for Athletic Bilbao in the ongoing campaign.
