I am not giving enough playing time at Black Stars, says defender Joseph Attamah Larweh

Kayserispor defender, Joseph Attamah Larweh, has expressed his disappointment over the lack of playing time at the Black Stars.

The right-back speaking in an interview revealed that an issue stemmed from 2017 when he was played in an unnatural position by then-head coach Kwesi Appiah.

According to him, he has mostly featured in friendly matches and not competitive ones.

“That was in 2017. I have played in that position before and it wasn’t a difficult position for me but on the field of play, something happened in which I thought if my teammate was a little bit faster to cover the issue, I don’t think it would have been a problem for me,” the former Tema Youth defender told TV3.

“Since then, things have been difficult for me. Whenever I get a call-up, I come but I don’t get the playing time. It was like when I come they do not give me the chance. The only time I would get the chance to play is when we had a friendly game but when it comes to the qualifiers, I don’t play.”

But, Attamah is eager to work with current coach Otto Addo when he regains full fitness.

“Yeah [I want to work with Otto Addo]. If he calls me today, I will go if I’m fit. For now, I’m not fit. They just called me for the Japan game but I wasn’t fit because of my knee injury. The funny thing is it’s always a late call-up [for me]. They call a player and he doesn’t come and then they end up calling me late. I’m always calm about it.”

Attamah played 30 league games for Kayserispor in the 2021/22 season and netted two goals. His team narrowly lost the Turkish cup final to Sivasspor in May.
