How Antoine Semenyo ALMOST missed George Boateng phone call to deliver World Cup call-up

England-based forward Antoine Semenyo has lifted the lid on the moment he received the news of his inclusion in Ghana’s final squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Bristol City striker reveled he was in bed when he got a phone call from an unknown number.

The 22 year old was skeptical about answering at first but ended up picking which turned out to be George Boateng, Black Stars assistant coach.

Boateng was ringing from Ghana to bring him the good news that he would be part of their plans and part of their 26-man squad which was whittled down from 55 names.

“I woke up and got a number from a Ghana number and I wasn’t sure and I was sceptical about picking it up. The assistant coach said I had been selected.

“It felt so surreal. I couldn’t believe what he was saying. I thought it was a fake number at one stage. When he told me I was so excited and rolling around in my bed and I was so happy. It’s all the hard work that has gone in to it.

“You don’t get so many memories like this, it’s so surreal I am talking about going to the World Cup. I never imagined getting this far.”
