Home-based Super Eagles begin training on Tuesday for Ghana friendly

Home-based Super Eagles players invited for Friday’s friendly against Ghana’s U23 team began training on Tuesday.

The players had two sessions in the morning and evening ahead of the friendly put together as part of the activities for the opening of the newly built Akwa Ibom Stadium in Uyo.

The team made up of stars from the Nigerian league trained at the Uyo Township stadium under the watchful eyes of Assistant Coach, Dan The Bull Amokachi.

He was assisted by Coach Valere Hyandonou and Goalies’ Trainer, Ike Shorunmu.

The team was scheduled to have a feel of the much talked about Uyo Stadium later on Tuesday evening.

Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, was still away in Abuja on some personal issues and is scheduled to join the team soonest.

The training proper, which featured all 24 players, lasted over two hours with some of the players having a first feel of the rigorous regime of training in the Super Eagles camp.

Ex-internationals, James Etokebe, and Patrick Udoh, came to give the team moral support during the morning session, with a sizeable number of football fans in Uyo also joining to watch their team train.

Mr. Etokebe, who is now the Coach of Akwa United, said he was excited that the Nigerian national team would be playing two important games in his home state and thanked Governor Godswill Akpabio for the vision to build an edifice that is now attracting not only international football but attention across the world.

Mr. Udoh spoke along the same line and assured that fans in Uyo and environs will turn out to support the national team in the two games they have in the city in the coming days.
