Hohoe United Football Club officially secured promotion to the Ghana Premier League, and the club’s Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Asante, says their long-standing optimism has finally paid off.
The team sealed the feat with a convincing 3-1 win over Inter Allies at the Hohoe Stadium on Sunday, earning them top spot in the Access Bank Division One League Zone Three.
In an interview with Citi Sports, Kenneth Asante shared his delight over the club’s successful campaign, reflecting on how last season’s narrow miss served as extra motivation.
“Last season, we tried but Vision FC was able to qualify ahead of us so we were very optimistic that this season we were going to get the slot and with the motivation, the focus and the direction of the club, we were able to achieve that fate,” he said.
Hohoe United gained the license to operate in the second-tier league from Liberty Professionals, a former Ghana Premier League side, after they transitioned into a full-fledged football academy two seasons ago.
Meanwhile, in Zone Two, Swedru All Blacks returned to Ghana’s top flight for the first time in 16 years after cruising to a 3-0 victory over New Edubiase United.
Zone One’s qualification will be decided on Friday, May 30, when Real Tamale United face Techiman Eleven Wonders in a playoff at the Accra Sports Stadium.
