Hellas Verona’s improved form will face a huge test when they meet with Bologna at the Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium with the home side edging closer to getting out of the bottom three in Serie A after a draw with Napoli.
Verona were expected to get thrashed by the Serie A league leaders last time out, but despite seeing just 20% of the ball, they managed to have two shots on target compared to Napoli’s one and left Naples with a point and a clean sheet.
Prior to this, Verona got another win on the board in a fantastic home victory from a goal down against Sassuolo.
Federico Ceccherini scored in the 84th minute of the game before Adolfo Gaich’s stunning goal in the 95th minute that sealed all three points at home for Verona.
They have also lost 1-0 to Juventus in April, but with five wins and eight draws now on the table, the 18th-placed side are within just three points of Spezia in terms of getting out of the bottom three.
At the same time, Verona now have a better goals difference as well, having let in 43 goals compared to Spezia’s 48 with just eight games left to play.
On the other hand, only Sampdoria in last place with 16 points have scored fewer goals than Verona’s 24.
As for Bologna, they upset the odds again last weekend as they registered another upset over a top six side by drawing with AC Milan at home thanks to a goal after just one minute from Nicola Sansone.
Bologna stunned Atalanta in Bergamo a week prior to this, as Sansone scored again before a late finish from Riccardo Orsolini.
The club also defeated Udinese 3-0 in early April, and after draws with Lazio and Salernitana in March, it means just one defeat in the past six games for Bologna and just two defeats in the past two months after a home loss to Monza.
Thiago Motta’s side now sit behind Juventus in seventh by only goals difference and their hopes of a finish in the Europa Conference League is still alive and well after that win over Atalanta in sixth. In fact, Motta’s men sit behind Atalanta by just five points with eight games left to play.
Forebet predicts another win for Bologna on the road and for the game to see over 2.5 goals as the relegation struggles take another hit for Verona.
