Nii Noi Thompson is angling for a contract extension, but Hearts are almost certain to say goodbye to the man who drew five matches and won one in seven in a dreadful end to the season.
Hearts have had a heavy reliance on foreign coaches lately but Nelson believes the emphasis must change.
“I have been a firm advocate of foreign coaches in the past but I am not so sure any more and think we must appoint a local if we decide to go for a new coach,” he told kickoffGhana.com.
“The foreign coaches come and in many ways they truly don’t understand the system. The players struggle to understand them. There are too many problems that comes with it.”
Nelson’s preference for a local could tip the scales heavily in favour of Bashir Hayford, who the Hearts boss claims will be a popular choice among the club’s hard-to-please fans.
