Hearts boss CK Akunnor rubbishes Black Stars assistant job link

Media reports had claimed that the former Black Stars captain is keen for an appointment as the assistant coach of the national team, just weeks after signing a two-year deal with the capital based club.

The newly appointed Ghana boss is in the process of putting together members of his backroom staff ahead of crucial qualifiers for next year’s African Cup of Nations and the World Cup in 2014.

Many names have sprung up as possible candidates to assist the ex-Asante Kotoko defender in executing the country’s agenda of ending a 30-year wait for an African title.

The name of the ex- Right to Dream Academy coach has featured prominently but he insists he is in the dark over the reports.

“I am very surprised and shock at the news and the fact that people claim I am interested in the Black Stars assistant job,” Akunnor told GHANAsoccernet.com

“There is no truth iota of truth in the story. I just signed a contract with Hearts of Oak and I’m happy here. I’m here for a mission and so that what I am focusing on.

“Please I don’t want any distractions,”

Asante Kotoko boss Maxwell Konadu is believed to be the front runner for the position.
