Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford is focused on securing a top-four finish in the Ghana Premier League as his team takes on Nations FC in the final match of the season – a feat which would go a long way to ultimately end Nations FC’s chances of winning the league.
Nations are locked on points with GoldStars heading into the final round of games and need the Bibiani based side to falter.
According to Coach Hayford, the team has prepared well for the game and aim to win to secure a top-four spot.
“It’s our last game and we are preparing to go and finish the league so that we will see where we will occupy on the league table at the end of the season,” he said in his pre match presser.
“We want to make sure that if we don’t get the league title, we will find ourselves in the top four and then give ourselves another title competition [next season],” Hayford added.
Currently fourth in the league standings with 57 points, Heart of Lions will face competition from fifth-placed Hearts of Oak, who are just two points behind. A win for Hearts of Oak against FC Samartex and a loss for Lions could see them drop out of the top four. The match against Nations FC is scheduled for Sunday, June 8, at 3 pm at Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. A strong performance from Lions will be crucial in securing their top-four spot.
