Halifax to book play-off semi-final spot

On Tuesday night, Halifax and Chesterfield meet at the Shay Stadium to decide who will proceed to the semi-finals of the National League promotion play-offs.

Halifax

The Yorkshire outfit finished fourth place in the regular season, ten points behind league winners Stockport County in the standings. An inconsistent end to their league campaign ended any chance of the Shaymen winning automatic promotion to the football league.

A run of just two wins in their last five league matches was not a great way to finish a campaign. However, a 2-0 loss on the final day of their league campaign against Stockport ended a three-game unbeaten run in the National League.

Peter Wild’s team have a solid recent home record in the National League, as they are unbeaten in ten matches at the Shay, having recorded eight wins in the process. Their recent games on home soil have been low-scoring, with eight of their last ten home matches in the National League producing under 2.5 goals. Town has also kept clean sheets in six of their previous eight home games in the National League.

Chesterfield

The Spireites finished in seventh place in the National League table, finishing just a point ahead of eighth-place Dagenham and Redbridge.

The visitors finished the regular season in poor form, as they failed to win any of their last four league games, having suffered three defeats and a loss. A 0-0 last-day home draw against Woking proved vital in setting up this tie and ended the visitors’ three-game losing streak.

Paul Cook’s team has struggled for away wins of late in the National League, as they have won just one of their last nine away matches on their travels.
