The Rennes striker last played for Ghana at the quarterfinal stage of the 2008 Nations Cup after his participation in the team was curtailed by a series of injuries. But he says he feels fit and good to contribute to the national team. “I have played a few games at club level and I think my condition is quiet good, which is why I responded to the call. I am just delighted to be here because I have had a difficult one and half years,” he told KickOffGhana.com. Nothing was more difficult for Gyan than the relentless criticisms he received during the Nations Cup because he missed too many chances. He claims to have forgotten about that but says he will still be keen to win a few people over. “As a striker you are bound to face criticism but you must be prepared to prove your critics wrong and that is what I am planning to do. In football you cannot say what will happen, I may score, I may not score but I will make an effort. “I hope it does not happen again what happened to me during the Nations Cup does not happen again. I am the type of striker who believes in the team and plays for the team but sometimes the fans do not understand. I am more interested in my contribution to the team but if the chance comes I will score,” he said.
