Swiss-born Ghanaian defender Gregory Wüthrich has completed a return to Swiss Super League giants BSC Young Boys, signing a three-year contract that runs until the summer of 2028.
The 30-year-old centre-back rejoins his boyhood club on a free transfer after parting ways with Austrian champions Sturm Graz, where he enjoyed a successful stint, including title-winning campaigns and European appearances.
Wüthrich had been linked with a move to Serbian side Red Star Belgrade but opted for a homecoming instead.
“This move completes a full circle for me,” Wüthrich said via the club’s website.
“It’s a return to my hometown, and I’m happy and fully motivated to help YB win more titles.”
BSC Young Boys also expressed delight over the acquisition, with sporting director Mathieu Beda stating, “We’ve had ongoing talks with Wüthrich and his camp. We are confident his experience and qualities will add stability and leadership to our backline.”
Wüthrich, who has been capped twice by Switzerland’s senior national team, remains eligible to represent Ghana at the international level due to his heritage.
His return is expected to bolster Young Boys’ defence as they prepare for the 2025/26 season, with domestic and European ambitions firmly in sight.
