General Manager of Accra Great Olympics, Eric Alagidede, has called on Ghanaian politicians to actively champion local football, drawing inspiration from the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah’s consistent public support for the sport.

Dr. Omane Boamah ; a former Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports and General Coordinator for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region alongside Environment Minister Dr. Murtala Mohammed and six others.

A devoted Asante Kotoko fan, he was widely admired for using his influence to highlight Ghanaian football.

“These are the calibre of leaders we want to see. You don’t just support a club and say you’re a club supporter,” Alagidede told Luv FM.

He praised Dr. Boamah’s regular football-related posts on X, Facebook, and Instagram, noting their power to attract fresh interest in the sport.

“There are people on his timeline who may not be interested in football, but they may develop some love for the club he supports,” he explained.

Alagidede also lauded the current Ashanti Regional Minister and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly boss for their visible backing of local teams and urged others to follow suit.

“If you are a minister, tweet about Hearts of Oak or Kumasi Asante Kotoko ; you may not know the impact,” he added.
