GPL Preview: Hearts and Kotoko seek to reclaim winning form

With the season edging closer to its climax and only 10 matches remaining, the Ghana Premier League’s intensity is skyrocketing, with much at stake in this weekend’s matches.

The action kicks off on Friday afternoon at the Dr. Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese, where Nations FC will welcome Great Olympics. Nations FC are eager for a victory that could potentially propel them past league frontrunners Samartex FC. Meanwhile, Great Olympics are looking to secure their first-ever win at Abrankese, following a defeat to Aduana FC at the same venue last season.

The football continues on Saturday afternoon at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, with Bechem United playing host to Asante Kotoko SC. The Porcupines, under significant pressure, have managed only a single victory in their last six matches. Kotoko are also yet to secure a win against Bechem United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park since they joined the Ghanaian top-flight campaign in 2014/15 season.

Accra Lions are set to welcome Bofoakwa Tano FC to the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon, in a match that promises to be a compelling encounter. Bofoakwa Tano, still in search of their first away win, will face a Lions team that tasted defeat only once in their last five outings.

Sunday afternoon sees Aduana FC playing host to Real Tamale United at the Nana Agyeman Badu Stadium. The Fire Lads are eager to bounce back from the 4-2 defeat suffered at the hands of Great Olympics in their previous match. On the other side, the Pride of the North, Real Tamale United, are yet to secure a win in Dormaa Ahenkro since their return to Ghana’s top-flight league in the 2020/21 season.

Hearts of Oak are set to return to the Accra Sports Stadium, where they will face off against Gold Stars. Gold Stars. The visitors, who are yet to secure an away win this season, aim to defy the odds and overturn their poor record against the Phobians this Sunday. Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak are determined to claim victory and rebound from their recent defeat to Samartex.

In other action, Karela United are gearing up to host Hearts of Lions at the Naleregu Stadium, with both teams eyeing crucial points for relegation survival. Also, league leaders Samartex are looking to widen their gap at the top as they welcome defending champions Medeama SC.

Nsoatreman FC clash with Berekum Chelsea in the highly anticipated Bono derby, taking place at the Nana Koromansah Park in Nsoatre. Chelsea come into the derby with a record of three away wins this season. On the other hand, Nsoatreman’s form on the road has been inconsistent, managing only a single win in their last five games.
