Ghana’s Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, has announced plans to end the practice of housing national teams in private hotels, revealing government’s intention to develop modern, permanent camping facilities for all national squads.

Speaking on The Arena on Woezor TV, Adams revealed that the Borteyman enclave, used during the 2023 African Games, has been identified as one of the key sites for the new project.

He added that the Winneba Sports College will also undergo major redevelopment to meet international standards.

“It is part of President Mahama’s agenda, and we are looking at developing the Borteyman land very well to have such facilities and also renovating the Winneba Sports College to make sure that we make it like a three-star or a type of facility where it can serve as a good camping place for our national teams,” he explained.

The minister said the initiative aims to cut costs and reduce dependence on private hotels, while giving teams access to world-class preparation centres.

“We will have Winneba to serve one purpose, and when we develop the Borteyman land also, we will have such a facility, so we don’t have to be camping our national teams in hotels,” he added, noting that the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram will also be expanded to support this vision.
