Former deputy sports minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has warned government against sponsoring supporters to the FIFA World Cup.

This year’s mundial is scheduled for November 20 – December 18, 2022, in Doha Qatar.

Ankrah believes the initiative comes with “issues” and “challenges” and that the ministry should not be involved in it.

“With my experience, I’m against the government taking supporters to the World Cup.” He told GNA Sports.

“If people think they want to go to Qatar and they can afford it, they should pay and go themselves. I don’t think the ministry should spend time and energy to do that.”

Ghana returns to the global showpiece after missing out on the previous edition in 2018, Russia.
