South Africa’s head coach, Desiree Ellis, has expressed frustration over the lack of clarity on the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) schedule, citing difficulties in keeping players in camp.
“If someone is listening, can they just give us a yes or no because after 7th we can’t keep players in camp,” Ellis said in an interview.
The uncertainty surrounding the tournament’s fate has left teams in limbo, with South Africa’s national team, the Banyana Banyana, preparing for the tournament without clear direction.
Ellis emphasized the challenges of managing a team amidst uncertainty, highlighting the need for clear communication from CAF.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to provide an update on the situation soon.
The tournament’s fate hangs in the balance, with Morocco initially set to host and South Africa offering to step in.
