Former Ghana forward Joetex Asamoah Frimpong has thrown his weight behind embattled Chris Hughton to lead the Black Stars to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast.
The former Brighton and Holve Albion trainer has come under immense pressure after horrific international break in October, losing all two games against Mexico and USA and conceding six goals in the process.
There have been calls for the sacking of the former English Premier League manager but Frimpong wants Hughton to stay for next year’s AFCON.
“Let’s give him a chance to lead the team to the AFCON; if he doesn’t do well, we fire him” he told Kessben FM
The 34th edition of AFCON is expected to take place from January 13 until February 11, 2024, with Ghana opening their account on January 14 against Cape Verde.
