Ghanaian defender Gideon Mensah’s dream of playing for Barcelona remains alive, despite a failed transfer attempt in 2019.
While playing for Red Bull Salzburg, Mensah was offered a loan move to Barcelona, where he would have served as Jordi Alba’s understudy.
However, the transfer collapsed after news of the deal leaked, breaching the confidentiality agreement.
“I couldn’t resist thinking about the next flight to Spain,” he told Flashscore.
“The next day, I saw the news everywhere in Ghana that Barcelona wanted me. I called my agent, asking what happened to keeping it quiet.”
Despite the setback, Mensah remains hopeful, adding, “Nobody knows what’s going to happen in the future. The opportunity to play for Barcelona can come back again.”
Mensah is currently playing for French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre.
