The Black Stars’ quest for a winning start in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers suffered another setback as Sudan held them to a frustrating 0-0 draw on Thursday.
The intriguing encounter which was at the Accra Sports Stadium failed to produce no goal in either halves.
Ghana began brightly, with Alexander Djiku’s powerful header in the 4th minute crashing against the crossbar courtesy of Mohammed Kudus’ pinpoint corner delivery.
Antoine Semenyo continued the attacking pressure, forcing Sudan goalkeeper Mohamed Mustafa Ahmed into an acrobatic save in the 17th minute.
However, Sudan gradually gained momentum, nullifying Ghana’s attacking threat and rendering their creative efforts futile.
The visitors’ well-organized defence proved impenetrable, frustrating the Black Stars and denying them a crucial victory.
Kudus remained a constant menace, unleashing a fierce shot early in the second half only to be denied by Mustafa’s exceptional goalkeeping.
In the 88th minute, Kudus squandered a gilt-edged opportunity, with Mustafa’s goal-line save securing a crucial point for Sudan.
Ghana, with just two points from three games, faces an arduous task ahead of their pivotal return fixture on October 14, 2024, at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.
