Ghana’s Salisu and Kamaldeen relegated from Premier League with Southampton

Ghana duo Mohammed Salisu and Kamaldeen Sulemana have suffered relegation from the Premier League with Southampton.

The coup de grace on the Saints’ very poor 2022/23 league campaign was delivered right in front of their home fans at St. Mary’s on Saturday May 13.

A 2-0 defeat to Fulham FC sealed Southampton’s fate as the first club to hit the deck – condemning them to Championship football next season.

Carlos Vinicius put the first nail into the coffin of Southampton’s 11-year Premier League tenure in the 48th minute.

The final nail was hammered in by the returning Aleksandar Mitrovic on 72 minutes, getting across Kyle Walker-Peters to head home Wilson’s cross.

Southampton fans now just have two more Premier League games to witness – away to Brighton and at home against Liverpool – before they go back to the Football League for the first time since 2012.

Salisu, who has been with the Saints since summer 2020, did not make the match squad for the 8th consecutive game while late January signing Kamaldeen came off the bench to enjoy 28 minutes action.
