German Bundesliga newcomers St. Pauli have submitted a €3 million bid for Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru, as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
Sources say St. Pauli are prepared to offer the 27-year-old a long-term contract, reportedly stretching up to five years, as they aim to build stability in midfield.
Ashimeru has fallen down the pecking order at Belgian giants Anderlecht and is not considered part of the club’s future plans.
With just a year remaining on his contract, Anderlecht appear willing to cash in on the player this summer rather than risk losing him for free.
Injuries hampered the former WAFA and RB Salzburg midfielder last season, limiting him to only 19 appearances in all competitions.
However, he remains a highly rated talent, and St. Pauli are confident he can rediscover his best form in Germany.
If the deal goes through, Ashimeru will become one of the headline additions in St. Pauli’s return to top-flight football.
