Ghana’s defensive lineup for the 2023 AFCON has been dealt a significant blow as Joseph Aidoo is set to miss the tournament due to a ruptured Achilles tendon.
The centre-back picked up the injury in the first half of Ghana’s friendly against Mexico during the international break.
RC Celta’s medical services announced that Aidoo underwent a successful operation on Thursday to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon.
The surgery involved reconstructing the tendon with reinforced sutures and the application of growth factors.
As a result, Aidoo is expected to be out of action for a minimum of 6-7 months.
This unfortunate setback implies that Aidoo will not be available to represent Ghana at the 2023 AFCON.
The tournament is scheduled to run from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
Ghana are pitted in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.
