Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, suffered a major setback in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign after a 2-0 defeat to Sudan on Tuesday.
Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up in the Ghanaian box.
Gideon Mensah’s attempted clearance off the line failed, allowing Mahmoud to easily tap the ball into an empty net.
Just three minutes later, Mohamed Abdelrahman outmuscled Mohammed Salisu and slotted the ball past Lawrence Ati-Zigi to double Sudan’s lead.
Inaki Williams came close to pulling one back for Ghana, but his volley from Tariq Lamptey’s cross narrowly missed the post. Despite a late push, Otto Addo’s men couldn’t find a way to score.
The defeat leaves Ghana third in Group F with two points from four matches, having drawn two and lost two.
To keep their qualification hopes alive, the Black Stars must rely on favorable results from other fixtures and secure wins in their remaining games against Niger and Angola in November.
