German-born Ghanaian youngster Justin Diehl scored in FC Köln II’s 3-2 defeat to Fortuna Düsseldorf II in the German Regionalliga West Round 17.
The team of head coach Evangelos Sbonias ended a four-game undefeated streak. The opening of the Rhenish U21 match against Fortuna Dusseldorf on Friday evening couldn’t have gone much better.
After only 15 minutes, Florian Dietz scored following a wonderful combination and subsequent cross from Noah Katterbach. After 30 minutes, Justin Diehl made it 2-0 thanks to an assist from Meiko Waschenbach.
His shot hit the post and then the back of the Fortuna goalkeeper. The goal was the offensive player’s 11th of the season.
After the break, the U-21’s momentum decreased, and lost the game 2-3 in difficult pitch conditions and heavy rain against a hard-fighting team from Düsseldorf.
This means that Koln U-21 is in fourth place in the Regionalliga West after the 17th matchday. In the next game, the Young Bucks will play at home in a city duel against second-placed Fortuna Cologne.
