Dutch-born Ghanaian youngster Ernest Poku played a major role in AZ Alkmaar’s victory over Quick Boys in the Dutch KNVB Cup.
The 19-year-old attacker scored in AZ’s 3-3 draw with Quick Boys at the AFAS Stadion.
AZ and Quick Boys failed to score in the first half of the encounter.
The second half started with a great opportunity for Quick Boys, which quickly countered through Sem van Duijn. The attacker found Broekhuizen in front of the goal, but he shot wide. After Pavlidis’ attempt went wide, Quick Boys scored at the other end with another quick counter. Nigel Nwankwo remained calm and scored in the 59th minute.
After the Alkmaarders had already appeared dangerously in front of the Quick Boys goal a few times, it was De Wit who headed in the 1-1 from a cross from Martins Indi in the 70th minute.
Two minutes later Ernest Poku made it 2-1, with a left footed shot from the left side of the box to the bottom right corner.
Leonard de Beste scored for Quick Boys in the 90+7 mins to make it 2-2. AZ thought Myron van Brederode had scored the winning goal for them in the 97th minute. Sem van Duijn scored for Quick Boys in the 113th minute.
The game headed to penalties and AZ Alkmaar won 4-2.
