Ghanaian international Augustine Boakye made a standout contribution for Saint-Étienne in their exhilarating 3-3 away draw against Stade Laval in the opening match of the 2025/26 French Ligue 2 season.
The 24-year-old playmaker got the campaign off to a flying start with a goal and an assist, but his night was cut short after he was forced off injured in the 71st minute.
Cameroonian forward Malik Tchokounte opened the scoring for Stade Laval in the 16th minute, but Irvin Cardona leveled for Saint-Étienne in the 27th minute.
Boakye then put the visitors ahead with a goal in the 35th minute, only for Tchokounte to equalize again just before halftime.
Early in the second half, Boakye showed his playmaking quality by setting up Benjamin Old’s strike in the 51st minute, giving Saint-Étienne a 3-2 lead.
However, Ethan Clavreul scored a late equalizer in the 87th minute to ensure the spoils were shared in a thrilling encounter.
Boakye’s injury status is currently unclear, but the club hopes it is not serious so he can feature in their next Ligue 2 fixture against Rodez.
