Ghanaian defender Richie Laryea believes Canada can cause upset at 2022 World Cup

Ghanaian right-back Richie Laryea says Canada are going to surprise a lot of teams at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Canada, who are will be the lowest-ranked team in their group climbed two places to 41 in the recent FIFA rankings.

The three other nations in Group F alongside Canada are Belgium, Croatia and Morocco.

“I feel like a lot of people think that we’re maybe going to shy away from (the challenge) and they might see a different type of Canada on display (in Qatar),” said Laryea as quoted by leaderpost.com.

“But I think it’s going to be the complete opposite. It’s going to be the same bright, energetic team that we’ve been from Day 1. It’s going to be exciting.

“I think we’re going to surprise a lot of people and I think the most important thing is we have a big belief within the group and we know we can go there and make it out of the group (stage) and really make a push for this thing.”

He added, “Of course, we’re playing against good teams but if we want to get this country to where it needs to be as a footballing country you need to be able to go out and beat the best teams in the world.”

“So that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”
