Ghanaian Defender Josh Acheampong focused on Chelsea future despite transfer links

British Born Ghanaian Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong has downplayed rumours of a potential move, reaffirming his commitment to staying at Stamford Bridge.

The 19-year-old, currently featuring at the FIFA Club World Cup, has caught attention from clubs including Tottenham, Newcastle, and Borussia Dortmund. But the Cobham academy graduate says his priority is development with the Blues.

“I just focus on my football,” Acheampong told reporters. “I love the club and want to stay at Chelsea to show what I can do.”

Having been at Chelsea since the U8 level, Acheampong signed a new deal in December 2024 that runs until 2029.

He has made 14 senior appearances and continues to impress under manager Enzo Maresca, who has backed the youngster as part of his long-term plans.

Acheampong also credited the support of academy teammates and senior figures like Tosin Adarabioyo, saying the environment has helped him stay grounded and confident.
