In a potential boost for FC Schalke 04, German-born Ghanaian defender Anton Donkor is poised to join the club for the upcoming season, provided they maintain their status in the Bundesliga 2.
The Royal Blues’ future in the league remains uncertain, despite a crucial 2-0 victory over Nuremberg on Saturday, which marked a significant stride toward their survival.
According to a report by BILD, Donkor, a pivotal figure at Eintracht Braunschweig, another team grappling with relegation, is set to relocate to North Rhine-Westphalia. The 26-year-old left-back’s contract is due to expire this summer, enabling him to make the move without a transfer fee.
Donkor’s association with Braunschweig began two years ago, following a free transfer from SV Waldhof Mannheim. Since then, he has made 62 appearances for the Lions, missing only one game in the current season. However, if Schalke is relegated to the 3rd division, the contract would allegedly be nullified.
