Ghanaian-born midfielder Samuel Gidi has been named to Slovakia’s U21 roster for the upcoming UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers against Andorra and Moldova.
The 21-year-old, who was born in Accra, has officially switched his allegiance to Slovakia after being granted citizenship.
Gidi’s journey to European football began when he joined MSK Zilina’s academy in Ghana before moving to Slovakia to play for the top-flight side.
He has since made over 100 professional appearances, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists.
Gidi’s impressive form earned him a spot in FC Cincinnati’s roster in the Major League Soccer.
Slovakia U21 head coach Jaroslav Kentos expressed his excitement about Gidi’s inclusion, stating that they have been monitoring his progress and believe he can make a significant impact.
