Ghana will host the inaugural U-20 WAFU A&B Boys Cup in Accra from June 15 to 30, 2025, featuring 16 West African countries.
This tournament marks a new era in regional football, combining WAFU A and B zones for the first time at the U-20 level. The games will be played at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, with the final at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The tournament aims to promote football development and competition among West African nations. For Ghana’s U-20 team, coached by Desmond Ofei, this event presents an opportunity to rebuild and regroup after their disappointing exit from the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. Despite topping their group, Ghana lost to Egypt on penalties in the quarterfinals.
The outcome of this tournament may influence the Ghana Football Association’s decision on Desmond Ofei’s future as coach.
The U-20 WAFU A&B Boys Cup will provide a platform for young players to showcase their talents and for coaches to assess their teams’ progress.
With a successful hosting of the CAF African Schools Football Championship in April, Ghana is set to deliver another quality football event in June.
