Ghana reveals squad numbers for 2023 AFCON

As Ghana sets its sights on a historic fifth Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) title, the national team has unveiled the squad numbers for the upcoming tournament.

Key squad numbers include goalkeeper Richard Ofori sporting jersey number 1, Richmond Lamptey from Asante Kotoko in number 22, rising star Ernest Nuamah donning number 24, and Medeama duo Jonathan Sowah and Fatawu Hamidu securing numbers 27 and 17, respectively.

The team is currently immersed in intensive preparations, conducting rigorous training sessions at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Kumasi.

Ghana will be making her 24th appearance at Africa’s flagship competition in Cote D’Ivoire having lifted the title in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982. 

The Black Stars have finished second on three different occasions since their last win 1982 in Libya. Ghana lost to Cote D’Ivoire in the 1992 final, lost the title to Egypt in 2010 before suffering an excruciating loss to Cote D’Ivoire in 2015.

Ghana face Cape Verde, record holders Egypt and Mozambique in the Group stage of the tournament scheduled for Cote D’Ivoire from Saturday, January 13 – Sunday, February 11, 2024.
