Ligue 2 side AS Saint-Étienne have confirmed the permanent signing of French-born Ghanaian midfielder Pierre Ekwah from Premier League returnees Sunderland.
The 23-year-old spent last season on loan with Les Verts, making 30 appearances in all competitions. His performances convinced the French club to activate the option-to-buy clause in his deal.
“AS Saint-Étienne confirms that it has exercised the option to buy Pierre Ekwah, which was part of his loan from Sunderland last summer,” the club announced.
Ekwah, a product of Chelsea’s academy, is eligible to represent Ghana at senior level despite having featured for France at U16 and U20. Born to Ghanaian and Cameroonian parents, he remains on the radar of the Black Stars.
