Ghana Premier League top 10 transfers

The betPawa Ghana Premier 2022-2023 transfer window was shut on the 22 August, Monday.

The window saw full of activities including notable names in the domestic top-flight moving from one club to the other.

And the astonishing part of it was the ability of some clubs to lure players around the continent. The whirlwind 52-day timeline is over and kickoffghana.com has selected the top ten of all.

1. Emmanuel Agyemang Badu

Former Ghana star Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu joined Great Olympics on a one-year contract. He will be available for the upcoming season, providing a boost to the capital club’s ambitions. The move brings the mid fielder’s inactivity to an end. The 31-year-old last played competitive football with Chinese club Qingdao FC in December 2021. Agyemang-Badu has a wealth of experience, having featured across Europe to Asia for the last twelve years.

2. Maxwell Abbey Quaye

He signed a two-year contract with the Phobians after leaving city rivals Great Olympics following the expiration of his contract. He sealed his move on the transfer deadline day on Monday. Abbey Quaye has been a mainstay in the Olympics team since their return to the Ghanaian top-flight with his outstanding performances. The forward has 20 goals in 60 appearances across the last three seasons in the Ghana Premier League. The 24-year-old is expected to be part of the Hearts registered players for this season’s CAF Confederation Cup and domestic competitions.

3.Attacker Abednego Tetteh

King Faisal Babes completed the signing of former Hearts of Oak striker Abednego Tetteh towards the upcoming season. The 31-year-old sealed his move to the Kumasi-based club on a two-year contract. Tetteh has been unattached since August 2021 as he was released by the Phobians following an unsuccessful spell.

4. Steven Mukwala

Asante Kotoko SC completed the signing of Uganda international striker Steven Dese Mukwala last week Wednesday after signing a two-year contract on a free transfer. The 23-year-old highly rated striker spent the 2019-20 season at Maroons FC where he was crowned top scorer of the Uganda Premier League. He netted 13 goals in 23 appearances to emerge goal king of the 2019/2020 campaign while on loan from Vipers SC.

5. Junior Kaaba

Kaaba joined Hearts of Oak on a two-year deal after a successful medical. He was one of the standout players for Cameroonian side Fauve Azur this season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists after only 11 matches. He bagged five goals in his last five matches and was adjudged his club’s player of the month for April.

6. Yassan Ouatching

The Central African Republic international is the second striker signed by the Phobians this summer to augment their team ahead of the 2022-23 season. Ouatching left Cameroon to join Myanmar National League team Zwekapin United in March 2019. He spent two seasons there before moving to Bangladesh. He has two caps for the Central Africa national team since making his debut in June in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola in Luanda.

7. Eric Ofori Antwi

The experienced shot stopper joined Cities at the beginning of the last season after leaving Medeama SC. He made 16 appearances in the Ghana Premier League where he managed to keep five clean sheets and conceded 14 goals in the process.

8. Lee Addy

The former Red Star Belgrade and Dinamo Zagreb player signed a three-year contract with Bono-based club Berekum Chelsea with an option to leave should a foreign-based club approach him. The 32-year-old is a journey man, having featured for several clubs across Ethiopia, Zambia, Serbia and Croatia. Addy was part of the Black Stars team at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola after which he went on to feature at the 2012 and 2013 tournaments.

9. Eric Esso

The midfielder is the big brother of former Hearts of Oak poster boy Joseph Esso who later moved on to play for Dreams FC. In the last two seasons, Eric Esso has been playing for Ashantigold SC and managed to make a name for himself.

10. John Tedeku

The 20-year-old left-back who has previously had a trial at Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg signed a three-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors to replace Ibrahim Imoro who left Kotoko for Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman. The youngster had a decent campaign in the Ghana Premier League last term having made 28 appearances where he started 24 times.
